When introduced the rebate for diesel used in refrigerated trailers was only allowed if the trailer and prime movers were owned by the same identity. Similarly, the diesel fuel used in refrigerating rail boxes and containers were not rebatable. Submission by the R.W.T.A. saw both these decisions reversed in favour of industry. Fuel rebates are likely to remain an ongoing issue and governments try to accommodate both industry and environmental groups alike.
2.6 Metre Wide Refrigerated Trailers
The R.W.T.A. has been arguing the case for 2.6 metres wide refrigerated vehicles for some time. The West Australian Government (Department of Main Roads) has agreed to conduct a six month trial using standard (2.5m) and proposed (2.6 m) wide vehicles on identical routes and runs.
The outcome of the trial should be known around August/September 2004.
Refrigerated Transport Equipment
As a member of the Refrigerated Transport Manufacturer’s Forum (RTMF), the R.W.T.A. took part in the study to establish the need for an Australian Standard for refrigerated transport equipment. The recommendations of that study are now being considered by the Technical Committee of Australian Standards in their deliberations on what might be applicable A.S. for refrigerated transport equipment.
