Attracting and retaining skilled people remains a priority across the cold chain. Industry Skills Australia (ISA) has announced new initiatives to help transport and logistics employers address workforce shortages, strengthen career pathways and prepare for technological change. The announcements followed the Supply Chain Leaders’ Summit II, held at NSW Parliament on 8 October 2026, bringing together industry, unions, government and training providers to explore how skills development can improve productivity.
National Heavy Vehicle Driver Action Plan
Launched by Senator Glenn Sterle, the plan addresses heavy vehicle driver shortages through a collaborative, industry-led approach to workforce planning and development. For refrigerated transport operators, it provides a focus for tackling a workforce challenge that directly affects service capacity and reliability.

Practical Support Through the Employer Hub
ISA’s new Employer Hub brings together workforce insights, funding information and practical resources to help employers attract, develop and retain skilled workers. Warehouse and transport businesses can explore the hub for support with their workforce planning and staff development needs.
Showcasing Careers Across the Supply Chain
ISA also previewed an upcoming careers campaign designed to challenge perceptions and highlight the range of opportunities across the transport supply chain. Businesses can register their interest in helping promote campaign materials as they become available.
