The Global Next Generation Award

Back in 2019, the RWTA excitedly announced Demi Hiriaki from Iceland Cold Storage as the Winner of the 2019 Frank Vale Award.

This is the first step for young leaders to progress over the span of  a year to an international platform, the GCCA Next Generation Award (NextGen).

This International Award annually acknowledges talented young people within the industry, who have demonstrated to their employers that they have the potential to make a positive contribution to the development of the industry and become future leaders in the cold chain sector.

The Global NextGen competition was to be held in the USA in September 2020; but as the pandemic dictated, this was cancelled and the International Competition was instead held virtually this week.

This final competition was to seek a winner from three great contestants from around the world. These competitors included our very own Frank Vale Winner, Demi Hiriaki, Chief Operations Officer of Iceland Cold Storage, Luca Quaresima, the Europe Operations and Logistics Manager from Newcold and Zeshan Hassan, Continuous Improvement Leader from Congebec Inc in Canada.

On this occasion, Luca Quaresima was the overall winner this year, and we would like to pass our congratulations to him from Australia on behalf of the RWTA.

INDUSTRY UPDATE: Automotive Holdings Group

AHG, as of today, will now be known as Scott’s Refrigerated Logistics or ScottsRL.
They will no longer refer to themselves as AHG Refrigerated Logistics or AHGRL and they will also begin to retire the SRF, Rand and JAT brands.
Under the new name, SCOTTS RL will be retaining three legal entities which are Scott’s Refrigerated Freightways Pty Ltd, Rand Transport (1986) Pty Ltd and JAT Road Transport Pty Ltd. Importantly the ABNs of these entities will not be changing, however the registered name of the three legal entities will change in the near future. These new legal entity names will be released once these changes are finalised.
New branding of facilities, fleet and documentation will be rolled out over the next few months. Their email and website will change from today to www.scottsrl.com.au and by using the format firstname.surname@scottsrl.com.au to contact employees.

RWTA EO Message - Federal Government Update

Legislation has been passed to implement the Payment Times Reporting Scheme, which will shine a light on large business payment performance.

Under the scheme, large businesses and applicable government enterprises with a total annual income of over $100 million will have to report publicly on how they pay their small business suppliers.

The government sees this as supporting millions of small businesses to get paid on time aslate payments have a significant impact on small business cash flow and inhibit the ability of a firm to invest, grow and employ.

Cash flow is crucial to the health of any business, but especially small business.

The government suggests that

• The introduction of this is transparency will lead to fairer and faster payments for Australia’s small and family businesses

• This will help small businesses make more informed decisions about who they do business with

• That the general public can make better decisions about the large businesses they purchase from.

• Reducing long and late payment times to small business will help improve their cash flow and boost employment and wages.

This will commence on 1 January 2021, and a dedicated web portal is being developed to help large businesses identify their small business suppliers and allow them to report on their payment performance.
